Yosano is a town known for its production of silk crepe (chirimen). In fact, at the height of production, 70% of Japan's production of silk crepe originated in Yosano and the surrounding area.

You can still see lavish old silk merchant houses lining the high street of the town. Built through the 17th-20th centuries, this street became known as the "Silk Road."
