We had a lovely large room with a balcony where we could drink tea.

The location of the hotel is superb. The stretch with onsens is about 1 km. The hotel is about a third into that stretch. The town is truly very nice.

The staff were super nice. Courteous. Professional. Warm. Friendly. They took great care of us.

The hotel was clean and well appointed.

Beds were comfortable (albeit very foreign to me — futons on tatami).

Meals were good. Filling. Healthy. Balanced. Tasty.

Some points to keep in mind:

The ryokan association runs a bus from the station to the ryokans but not the other way. It’s a 10 minutes flattish walk. Ok for mid size luggage + average to low fitness. Not ok if you have mobility needs.

The rooms require taking stairs. The staff that work here will not be able to help. They are too elderly to carry a 20+ kg bag. This is not an issue for light travelers. It could be a deal breaker if you have huge bags. I struggled with a mid to large sized 20 kgs ish suitcase because the stairs are a bit steep.

The meals are good and varied, but they are not Michelin star worthy. Keep that in mind when setting expectations. For a room that is about 250 usd / night for 2 people including breakfast and dinner, there isn’t enough in the kitty to dazzle a seasoned traveler from a big city like Tokyo or New York where a Michelin star meal runs $250 for 2 people. But they are well thought out and as good as one would expect in a Ryokan in an onsen town.

The staff do enter your room when you are out, when you are having a meal. They change the yukata, refresh the green tea, put out or pack away futons. Ryokans have a culture of service which can be intrusive if you are not aware of the norm that they are expected to ensure you are comfortable and to put out what you need and put away what you don’t. They will “mommy” you a bit and that’s ok (by me). For that, they will enter your room even when it is left locked.

The hotel straddles the line between old, vintage, and antique. Both in spirit and form, the hotel, things in it, and the people have seen many things. Everything is as well kept of as possible. I appreciated the chance to be a part of that experience. But one persons vintage is another person rundown. The ambience and decor is the opposite of a hotel with an Android mirror (real thing) where you could watch a YouTube video while brushing.

Stay here only if you want to have a cup of tea by the balcony with a bit of bird song. Else, you are better off elsewhere.

We left happy. And we would return if we are in these woods again.

I have nothing negative to say. It's a fantastic Ryokan. The staff are unbelievably helpful and attentive. The food is amazing. The room was perfect and the location was fantastic! Come here for a traditional Japanese Ryokan/Onsen. This Ryokan has a bath and is in walking distance of all the bath houses in Kinosaki-onsen.

Some of the staff speak English which is very helpful. Some staff don't. If you can speak some Japanese it'll be very helpful too!

This Ryokan was the highlight of my trip to Kansai! Thank you to everyone here!

Would recommend Tsukimotoya to anyone, they provided a great Kinosaki experience for us. When I saw it was a bit less expensive than other ryokans in town I thought it may be less well maintained or budget but it was wonderful, staff were very friendly and happy to explain customs and the meal.

All great, only the timing of the dinner and breakfast too early, structure close the access at 23.30 in my opinion too early aswell

Phenomenal stay. Traditional breakfast and dinner included. staff were lovely and very patient with us as we navigated our way. The food was delicious and traditional nature of the Ryokan was beautiful and peaceful. We got engaged on one of our days in Kinosaki Onsen. It and Tsukimotoya Ryokan were an amazing stay and perfect place to do so.

Im strict, for me it is 5 stars. Paid 45k yen for 2 people includes dinner and breakfast. Room was very spacious too. Kaiseki dinner was really amazing service also great. Theres a youtube video about this ryokan u can check out.

• The room was clean and at perfect size. Quite large compared to normal hotel in big city, even significantly larger than ryokan I visited in Kusatsu Onsen town.

• The owner and all staff members are all kind and welcoming. Nice support when need.

• Facilities are sufficiently support my need during stay except that there is only on hair dryer in the ryokan’s own onsen.

• Half-boards are also perfect. I enjoyed every meals during stay.

• Check-in & Check-out are smooth.

• Location are at walkable distance from Kinosaki Station. May not be close to station but at centers of 7 Onsen which I enjoyed so much.

One of our favourite experiences in Japan. Loved our large traditional tatami room which had private toilet and sink. No shower but there is a small onsite onsen but really you spend so much time in the various public onsens you will be too clean!
We think we had the most stylish yukata and haori combination in the town. Our hostess greeted us with tea and helped teach us the ways to wear our yukata correctly.
We stayed 2 nights one night we had kaiseki dinner and the other shabu shabu. All meals were huge and even myself as a big guy was stuffed! Great quality as well.
Location is in the heart of the action.
Very authentic and they have an English speaking staff member to help as well.

In search of reasonably-priced ryokan in Kinosaki, I came across this place in the last minute. Though the place is not a fancy one, the service is yet superb. Most guests are spending time outside strolling the city & plunge into onsen pools anyway (the onsen pass is provided when checking in). I would advise that you pre-book breakfast and dinner as well. Finding a decent course at the restaurants nearby at dinner time is a challenge.

Took a chance from good reviews & this place is great. A little outdated, but still comfortable & has everything you need. The beds are a little hard on the floor with rice pillows. I wish we had my layers, might not use to sleeping on hard beds. There's no shower here, since you would be showering at the Onsen. They provide clothing & towels for Onsen.

Food is great & abundance. We were stuffed by the end. We got the basic package & enjoyed the food very much. It's in the middle of the Onsen area(down a short street) , we took the bus here from the station, there's a free bus when you exit for ryoken check in. Highly recommended.

We stayed for 1 night and loved it! The staff are very friendly and attentive, and the room is in a traditional style and quite big. The food at dinner and breakfast was also amazing! Good location to visit the onsens, and you are provided with an onsen pass & yukata to wear. Would definitely recommend!

We had a great one night stay here. The room was spacious and comfy (as long as you like sleeping on futons, which we found to be fine). The kaiseki dinner was better than I expected, especially since there was a lot of crab even in April. The meal quality definitely makes the price for two worth it.

One note: if only staying one night, the pass for the baths expires at 10am upon check out. So, plan to make use of the baths the day you arrive, as it's your best chance to hit several.
