From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, everything at this ryokan felt deeply thoughtful, calm, and perfectly cared for. What impressed us most was how seamlessly everything happened in the background. While we were away, the room was quietly prepared again, the futons carefully arranged, the space tidied beautifully, and the tea utensils refreshed without ever interrupting the feeling of peace and privacy. It felt effortless, yet full of care and attention.

The rooms themselves were absolutely beautiful. Staying in such an authentic traditional setting, with tatami floors, paper walls, and sleeping on futons, made the experience feel truly special and connected to Japanese culture. Everything we could possibly need was already prepared for us, from traditional clothing to every small detail that made the stay comfortable and welcoming.

Every member of the staff treated us with genuine kindness, warmth, and professionalism. We especially want to thank Phan and Momo. Their attentiveness, friendliness, and sincere hospitality made our stay unforgettable. They created the feeling of being not just guests, but truly welcomed and cared for.

The greatest highlight for us were the meals. Both breakfast and dinner were extraordinary experiences. The flavors, the presentation, the seasonal ingredients, and the beautiful changing tableware made every meal feel like art. You can truly feel that great importance is placed on the idea that “the eye also eats.” It was one of the most memorable culinary experiences of our trip to Japan.

We are deeply grateful for this experience and for the care that was put into every moment of our stay. This ryokan is not simply accommodation, but a place where hospitality, tradition, aesthetics, and quiet attention come together in a truly unforgettable way. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience authentic Japanese hospitality.

If you are staying in Kinosaki and want a traditional Japanese style stay, you have to stay at this Ryokan! The rooms were beautiful and clean! The staff made this stay for us, the owner is a godsend! She speaks English beautifully and gave us all sorts of recommendations for the town including which onsens to go to as first timers! The information she provided during our stay was invaluable! She even gave us a map of our next destination and highlighted her favourite places to go! If we could have stayed longer we 1000% would have! Also try to book direct, they were so shocked and appreciative that we booked via their website instead of third party!

They offer free parking but we had a huge RV so chose to park out back for 48 hours and it only cost 1,200 yen! The town is gorgeous with so many Onsens! They even provided Katanas for going Onsen hopping! Thank you so much for a brilliant experience ❤️

I stayed in Kinosaki onsen for 1 night at Tsutaya in March 2026 as a solo traveler that did not speak Japanese. I was the only foreigner during my time alongside many Japanese travelers but the staff were so incredibly welcoming. They have English speaking staff who explained everything regarding Kinosaki as well as dinner and breakfast (March was snow crab season so I got the snow crab feast which was amazing).

My room was very spacious and traditional - I wouldn't necessarily say the rooms are "dated" at all unlike some other reviews. The staff will make/unmake your bed during dinner and breakfast so you don't see them in action. The ryokan is also super central (basically smack dab in the middle of all 6 onsen so super convenient)

All in all, it was an incredible experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for a stay in Kinosaki onsen, solo traveler or not (there was a group of 8 Japanese tourists so I'm sure larger groups are fine too).

I personally would book directly on the site! I submitted an inquiry via the "Contact" tab, and they were very responsive, letting me know what date was available and meal options.

Our stay at Tsutaya Ryokan was absolutely magical. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality and warm welcome exceeded all our expectations.

We were deeply touched by their proactive approach to our dietary preferences. What truly moved us, however, was the overwhelming kindness and the many thoughtful gifts we received at the end of our stay. It made our farewell truly emotional.

We cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at this ryokan, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

It was our first time visiting Japan and a Japanese onsen, and the staff were very helpful with instructions about the local customs, including how to wear the traditional clothing and sandals, which were optional but recommended. We opted in and wore them to some onsen at night, which was not difficult, and quite fun.

The rooms were attractive and stylish tatami style, and quite comfortable despite it being the middle of winter.

The set-course dinners and breakfasts provided by the hotel were absolutely amazing and some of the best meals we had in our stay in Japan.

One was a 7-course shabu-shabu meal based around the local snow crabs, definitely some the best crab I've had anywhere. I was only sorry we couldn't finish the meal, as the quantity was quite large.

The staff serving the meals were very friendly and did an outstanding job guiding us through the meals.

The ryokan's onsen was very clean and relaxing.

We would love to visit again.

We had the joy of staying in this Ryokan for 2 nights as we experience Kinosaki onsen town. The host and staffs are super amazing and always ensure we are well taken care of. It truly felt like home and we will definitely go back to this ryokan the next time we visit ♥️

Great value and location. All the staff are so helpful. They offer free bus shuttle from the train station and on our way back, they helped us transport our luggage to the train station - saved us a lot of work!

Our stay included breakfast and dinner and the meals were delicious - a great way to taste a wide variety of seasonal, local food (we had lots of seafood and Tajima beef).

There was also a little library that provided a tranquil spot for reading and watching the passerbys below.

The only downside was that the room was a little dated, however that kinda gave it character. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Good location, traditional atmosphere, excellent service, delicious Japanese food.

Had the most incredible time staying at Tsutaya Ryoken. We felt really looked after, and the service was really top tier. I had a shellfish allergy, and unlike places in the UK where handover notes are not shared etc, meals were prepped curated for me each night, no hiccups.

The Ryoken is in the heart of Kinosaki, so you are very close to all the public onsens.

Located at a great place. Thr major onsens are nearby and it is by the main road too.

Staff were friendly even though there were some language barrier but it seems to be the norm in japan haha.

My friends and I had an incredible stay at Tsutaya. The hospitality was excellent from start to finish. Our room was very comfortable, and we loved having access to all the town’s onsens. I also enjoyed wearing a different Yukata every day from their lovely selection. The hotel staff were extremely kind and accommodating. I highly recommend this place for anyone traveling with their partner or a few friends.

Nice staff. Room was spacious and comfortable. We have chairs beside window with a garden view, which is nice.

Dinner is in our room. Breakfast is in a hall on 2nd floor. Both are good and yummy.

Ryokan guests are provide Onsen Pass that allow us to use all 7 public baths free of charge. In my opinion, "Goshonoyu", which is the closest to Tsutaya, is the best.

Ryokan Tsutaya is about 15-minute walk from Kinosaki Onsen Station. If you arrive town after 12.30, there are free shuttle buses that will take you to every ryokans.
